In the past, arginine was a staple in most pre-workout products due to its ability to increase nitric oxide (NO). Then, a few years ago, research emerged that showed L-citrulline was extremely effective at increasing blood arginine levels. Citrulline is a precursor of arginine and it provides a readily available material for arginine production, which in turn can be used for the production of NO. In fact, compared to a larger dose of arginine, L-citrulline has been scientifically shown to reach superior peak plasma arginine levels, making it a far better choice for NO production in your pre-workout! This is due to arginine itself, when consumed as a supplement, excessively breaking down in the body. Citrulline, on the other hand, is less susceptible to these destructive metabolic pathways, making it far more effective and efficient.

ENHANCE PERFORMANCE & BUILD MORE LEAN MUSCLE
While other pre-workout formulas may have some of the same ingredients, Lab Series Pre-Build features superior and full clinical doses of beta-alanine, betaine and taurine.
In a 2009 study, active college males taking 2.5g of betaine per day (found in 2 scoops of Pre-Build) for 2 weeks improved muscle endurance (squats) and increased the quality of repetitions performed. Researchers concluded that 2 weeks of betaine supplementation can significantly improve muscle endurance in the lower body (via more squat reps), as well as improve the quality of the workout by improving the number of repetitions performed at 90% of the subject’s maximal peak power output.[ii]
In a 2013 study, conducted at the College of Springfield in Massachusetts and published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, researchers found that subjects who supplemented with 2.5g of betaine along with weight training gained 3.75 lbs. of muscle in 6 weeks! What’s key about this study is, subjects were strength-trained men between the ages of 18 and 35.These men were required to have 2 years of strength training at least 3 times per week. Plus, they needed to meet minimum strength requirements of being able to at least bench press their bodyweight and squat at least 1.25 times their bodyweight. This is key, as it shows betaine can help even the most experienced lifters, which makes betaine a must-have ingredient in any supplement arsenal![i]

Beta-alanine is one of the key supplement breakthroughs of the last 10 years, and Lab Series Pre-Build utilizes a full researched 3.2g dose in each 2-scoop serving. When consumed, it passes directly from the bloodstream into muscle, where it binds to the essential amino acid L-histidine to form carnosine – a dipeptide that is your muscles’ first line of defense against the lowering of pH within your muscle cells during exercise. The lowering of pH is a major factor in muscle fatigue – negatively affecting enzyme function and muscle contraction events. As your muscles’ pH drops, so does their ability to contract forcibly and maintain a high level of performance throughout a workout.
Research backs the effectiveness of this powerful ingredient and the studies are numerous. Research shows that beta-alanine is capable of decreasing fatigue rate and improving performance during training – enhancing the muscle- and strength-building process!
